Announcing the release of our book
“Cuba: Then and Now” in early winter 2017
The first part of the book is a detailed and well-researched recount of Cuba’s fascinating history. Christopher Columbus, Teddy Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, the Mob, Che Guevara, Frank Sinatra, JFK and of course Fidel Castro (who outlasted 11 US presidents) all come to life and their effect on today’s Cuba is discussed in detail.
Also described in historical detail – but in a brief and fast-moving writing style – are the historical events that have taken place in Cuba, such as the liberation of Cuba from Spain, featuring the capture of San Juan Hill by Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders;
Also covered are Ernest Hemingway’s famous and rum-fueled books including “The Old Man and The Sea” about an aging Cuban fisherman; how the Mob turned Havana into the world’s most glitziest and exciting gambling and nightlife destination; and how the Revolution in 1959 changed everything.
A summary of the rapid political and economic changes that have occurred since 2008 are also included, including visits to Havana by US President Barack Obama (the first visiting US president to go to Cuba since Calvin Coolidge) and the Rolling Stones.
The book concludes with a indepth look at how Cuba has changed by first the loosening of sanctions by President Obama, and then the new changes released by trump that restrict travel once again. A must read for anyone interested in geopolitics and world history !
